Warner Music Group announced on October 14 that Jim Roppo, chairman and chief executive officer of Republic Records, a label of Universal Music Group (UMG), will join Warner Records Group as Vice Chairman. Roppo will be based in Los Angeles and will report directly to Aaron Bay-Schuck, chairman and chief executive officer of Warner Records Group. Warner described the move as a key appointment for the group. Roppo's start date has not yet been set.

Roppo has spent nearly three decades in the music industry, most of it at UMG. According to Billboard, he began his career in record retail, working in Los Angeles in 1988, before joining Island Def Jam in a sales role and working across sales, marketing and commerce. He moved to Republic in 2012 and rose through roles including head of marketing and commerce, executive vice president and general manager, and co-president, before becoming president and chief operating officer of the reorganized Republic in 2024 and later chairman and CEO of Republic Records. He is credited with powering major campaigns for artists including Drake, The Weeknd, Ariana Grande, Post Malone and Taylor Swift.

"Jim is one of the most talented, well-connected and most trusted label executives I have ever known," Bay-Schuck said in the announcement. "One of the few leaders to bridge the traditions of the record business and the complexities of the streaming era, he has a reputation for building marketing organizations and delivering career-defining artist campaigns. As a colleague, a friend and a Vice Chairman, I'm thrilled to welcome him to Warner Records Group."

"I am incredibly proud of the nearly 30 years I spent at UMG," Roppo said in the announcement. "Leading Republic Records and helping shape the recorded music landscape in North America has been unforgettable, but it's time to turn the page. Warner Records is in an exciting period of growth and ambition, and I'm very excited to be part of the team."

On the same day, UMG moved into the final phase of the restructuring and cost-cutting plan it launched in 2024, with multiple executives at labels including Def Jam, Polydor and Interscope set to depart; Roppo's exit from Republic was among the changes.
