Baltimore Vacants Reinvestment Initiative Wins National Housing Award

Maryland Gov. Wes Moore announced Oct. 13 that the Baltimore Vacants Reinvestment Initiative has received a national Program Excellence Award from the National Council of State Housing Agencies.
The initiative, run jointly by the state and the City of Baltimore, acquires and rehabilitates long-vacant properties and returns them to use, improving neighborhoods affected by vacant housing and expanding the supply of affordable homes.
Baltimore has long dealt with a large inventory of vacant buildings, and the state has made vacant-property remediation a housing policy priority in recent years, funding property recovery and redevelopment in communities across the city.
Moore said the award recognizes the state–city partnership model for addressing vacant properties, and that the work will be extended to more neighborhoods.
