New Mexico Candidate Hull Backs Limits on Governor's Emergency Powers at Roswell Event

Republican gubernatorial candidate Gregg Hull told supporters at a campaign event in Roswell on Oct. 13 that he supports legislation to limit the governor's emergency powers, the Roswell Daily Record reported.
Hull said the scope and duration of emergency powers should have clear boundaries set by the legislature, and that such proposals should be taken up by state lawmakers. He also addressed campaign issues including public safety and economic development.
New Mexico's governor is Democrat Michelle Lujan Grisham. The use of emergency powers during the pandemic sparked debate in the state, and bills to rein in those powers have been introduced in the legislature in recent years.
Roswell, in southeastern New Mexico, was a stop on Hull's campaign swing. The general election is in November.
