Pepperdine University Adopts Expanded Faith Statement 'Pepperdine Believes'

MALIBU, Calif., Oct. 13 — Pepperdine University has adopted an expanded faith statement, "Pepperdine Believes," clarifying the beliefs that shape the Christian university's identity, The Christian Post reported on Tuesday. President Jim Gash announced the release in an October 8 email to the campus community, which student-run Pepperdine Graphic Media later shared publicly.
Gash's email said the statement, adopted by the university's Board of Regents, "expands and clarifies the foundational beliefs shaping the institution's identity, mission and educational enterprise." The document outlines the university's theological stance on God, Christ, the Holy Spirit, Scripture, grace and the Church; it was unanimously approved by the Board of Regents and the Faith and Heritage Committee and will be published on the university's website in 30 days, the outlet reported.
Excerpts show the university affirming "the one God of Scripture — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — the holy and sovereign Creator of all things," and describing the Old and New Testaments as "the inspired and authoritative word of God." On grace, the statement says all people have sinned and fall short of God's glory, yet through Christ's atoning sacrifice are reconciled to God and given the gifts of salvation and eternal life.
