Qiao Xin's Cantonese Song 'Eating in Guangzhou' Plays on the Big Screen at Guangzhou Gourmet Week — 16 Years After His Father Qiao Fei's 'Moonlight' Was Heard at the Same Haixinsha Venue

U.S.-based singer-songwriter Qiao Xin announced on Oct. 14 that "Eating in Guangzhou" (Shi Zai Guangzhou), a Cantonese song he wrote, composed and performed, was shown that day on the big screen at the 2026 Guangzhou Gourmet Week at Haixinsha Asian Games Park in Guangzhou. According to Qiao, the song is being replayed on the festival's main-stage screen roughly every 20 minutes; photos and videos he provided show the screen playing his performance, with the song's title visible on screen and a "2026 Guangzhou Gourmet Week" banner at the venue.
Qiao said in his post that officials from relevant Guangzhou departments decided the same day, after viewing the work, to have it shown on the festival's big screen, and he thanked his hometown audience for their support. The song shares its name with the city's "Eating in Guangzhou" food brand, of which the Gourmet Week is a flagship event. According to the New Express, the 2026 Guangzhou Gourmet Week opened at Haixinsha Asian Games Park on Oct. 10 and runs through Oct. 19 under the theme "Time to Eat," held in tandem with the 140th Canton Fair and bringing together more than 200 food and beverage brands.
Haixinsha holds a special family meaning for Qiao. On Nov. 27, 2010, the closing ceremony of the Guangzhou Asian Games was held on Haixinsha Island, and its cultural program "Leave Your Song Behind" opened with the Chinese song "Moonlight" (Yue Guang Guang) — the Cantonese classic composed by Qiao Xin's father, Qiao Fei. Qiao Fei (1925-2011), a Guangzhou native, was a composer and conductor and the first director of the Guangdong National Orchestra; he composed "Moonlight" in 1960, with lyrics by Pan Lin, and the song remains a household name across the Lingnan region. Public records list Qiao Xin as Qiao Fei's second son. Sixteen years later, the son's new song met his hometown audience at the very same venue — a moment Qiao described as deeply emotional for him.
Qiao Xin has lived in the United States for years and founded the Seven Seas Choir in the U.S. in 2021. According to the choir, during the pandemic Qiao assembled recordings made at home by more than 80 singers around the world into a virtual-choir rendition of his father's "Moonlight," released at Mid-Autumn Festival, with Qiao himself serving as virtual conductor and audio and video producer.
