D.C. Council to Hold Tax Hearing Friday; Wealth Tax and Second-Home Tax Proposals on Agenda

Wednesday, October 14, 2026 · States · GSM News

The D.C. Council will hold a tax hearing on Friday (Oct. 16) to consider a range of tax changes amid pressure on the city's revenues, local outlet City Cast DC reported Oct. 13.

Topics for the hearing include Councilmember Nadeau's proposed wealth tax, a pied-à-terre tax on second homes, and options for adjusting sales and income tax rates. The council's finance-related committee will hear testimony from government officials and the public.

The District's government has faced slower revenue growth and fiscal pressure from federal policy changes in recent years, and the mayor and council are debating budget and tax arrangements for the next fiscal year.

The hearing will be held at the John A. Wilson Building and is open to the public; the council's website will publish the agenda and witness sign-up information.
