Wyoming PBS Hosts Four General Election Debates in Riverton on October 14-15, Starting With the Governor's Race

Wyoming PBS will stage four general election debates in Riverton on October 14-15 covering the races for governor, secretary of state, Wyoming's lone U.S. House seat and state superintendent of public instruction, ahead of the November 3 election, according to the network's published schedule. WyoRoundup published the full schedule on October 13, and Ballot Access News reported on October 12 that the governor and secretary of state debates were set for October 14 and the U.S. House debate for October 15.
The governor's debate opens the series on October 14 at 7 p.m., with Republican Eric Barlow, Constitution Party candidate Rebecca Bextel and Democrat Kenneth Casner. The secretary of state candidates follow at 8 p.m.: Democrat Bryan McCarty, Republican Robert Short and Tamara Trujillo of the Constitution Party. On October 15 at 7 p.m., the U.S. House candidates are Jeffrey Haggit (Constitution), Shawn Johnson (Libertarian) and Democrat Lisa Kinney. The series closes at 8 p.m. with the superintendent of public instruction race between Democrat Ana Cordova and Republican Steve Harshman. Each three-candidate debate runs a full hour, while the two-candidate superintendent debate is capped at 30 minutes.
All four debates take place at the Riverton High School Auditorium, 2001 W. Sunset Dr., and are open to the public; they will also be carried live on Wyoming PBS television and the network's YouTube channel. Steve Peck of Wyoming PBS will moderate, with reporters from Cowboy State Daily and Wyoming Public Media serving as panelists. Wyoming PBS will not host a U.S. Senate debate this cycle: only Democrat James Byrd confirmed by the deadline, and Republican Rep. Harriet Hageman did not respond to the invitation, and the network does not hold debates with a single candidate present.
