Palm Springs Residents Can Weigh In on How the Mayor Is Chosen at Oct. 15 and Oct. 19 Meetings

Thursday, October 15, 2026 · City · GSM News

PALM SPRINGS — Palm Springs is a city in Riverside County, California. Palm Springs residents have until Monday to share input on how the city's mayor should be selected. According to MyNewsLA, the city has scheduled a series of community meetings that began in late July and end on October 19, inviting residents from each district to say whether the city should switch from its current system — in which the mayor's post rotates annually among the five council members — to a directly elected mayor.

Two sessions remain: Thursday, October 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Aloe Palm Canyon, 475 N. Palm Canyon; and Monday, October 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Palm Springs High School, 2401 E. Baristo Road.

Residents who cannot attend may share input through an online survey, available in English and Spanish, at engagepalmsprings.com. No timeline for any subsequent city decision was given in the report.

The Palm Springs City Council has five members, and under the current rotation each takes a turn as mayor. How this round of input, which began in late July, will feed into any council action has not been announced.
