LOS ANGELES — Decentralized Pictures (DCP), a nonprofit dedicated to empowering emerging filmmakers, announced the Kevin Smith Casting Award on October 15, 2026, in collaboration with writer-director Kevin Smith. Up to two recipients, selected by Smith, will receive a speaking role in his upcoming feature film, along with travel support for the shoot.

Smith, known for Clerks, Mallrats and Dogma, released his last feature, The 4:30 Movie, in 2024. In an official statement he said he was thrilled to team up with DCP to find new talent to join the View Askewniverse.

To submit, aspiring actors aged 18 and older record themselves performing provided lines as Jay, one of the characters most associated with the View Askewniverse. The lines must be said as written, though performers are encouraged to interpret them in their own way. Top submissions are first chosen by the DCP community on its transparent voting platform, after which Smith and the DCP Board select the final recipients.

Submissions are open through November 15, 2026, with the review period ending November 22 and finalists to be announced shortly after. Recipients must be able to travel to Canada or Los Angeles for the shoot. Leo Matchett, co-founder and CEO of DCP, said in an official statement that the organization was honored to collaborate with Smith to uplift emerging film talent.

DCP is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded with the support of American Zoetrope. Its recent Sofia Coppola Short Film Award drew more than 2,300 submissions. Full eligibility details are on the DCP website.
