Arkansas Church Choir Sings Backstreet Boys Song During Worship Service

FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas — The choir of Central United Methodist Church in Fayetteville sang a choral arrangement of the Backstreet Boys' 1999 song "I Want It That Way" during its worship service on Sunday, October 11, 2026, and a clip of the performance drew wide attention on social media, The Christian Post reported on October 14.
According to the report, the performance was part of the church's sermon series on generational distinctions. The Rev. Virginia Brown, the church's Wesley director and college pastor, introduced the piece as a millennial nostalgia song, noting it was released on April 12, 1999.
Senior pastor the Rev. Jennie Williams told The Christian Post that the church's musical choice followed the example of Jesus Christ in being relatable to people.
