FTC Sends More Than $9.8 Million to 65,022 Consumers Harmed in Walmart Wire Transfer Case

Thursday, October 15, 2026 · Federal · GSM News

WASHINGTON — The Federal Trade Commission announced it is sending more than $9.8 million in refunds to 65,022 consumers harmed by Walmart's failure to stop scammers who used its wire transfer services. The refunds are being sent by check and must be cashed within 90 days.

The payments stem from the FTC's case against Walmart, filed in June 2022, alleging the company failed to prevent fraudsters from using its money transfer services, through which victims lost hundreds of millions of dollars. Walmart settled in June 2025 for $10 million. Rust Consulting is administering the refunds and can be reached at 1-833-472-1990. The FTC notes it never requires consumers to pay or provide account information to receive a refund.
