Severe Flooding Hits Greece's Rhodes, Civil Protection Activates 112 Alert

ATHENS — Severe flooding struck the Greek island of Rhodes on October 14, prompting Greece's Civil Protection authorities to activate the national 112 emergency alert system across the entire Rhodes regional unit, Travel and Tour World reported. Officials warned of severe regional weather and urged both residents and international visitors to limit travel to essential journeys only and to remain indoors whenever possible.
Rhodes Mayor Alexandros Koliadis reinforced the message with a similar public appeal shortly after the alert. Emergency services were responding to multiple calls, and Greek government ministries were monitoring the meteorological situation closely, the report said. The U.K. government issued travel warnings for British holidaymakers on the island. Rhodes, in the southeastern Aegean Sea, is a major Mediterranean holiday destination.
Separately the same day, road and marine restrictions were in place for the visit of an Israeli cruise ship, Crown Iris, to the Port of Argostoli on Kefalonia on October 14, according to Cruise Hive. Road restrictions began at 11 p.m. the previous evening, and marine restrictions covered slightly longer than the ship's time in port.
