HSI Arrests Convicted Sex Offender in Oregon After Sanctuary-Policy Release

The Department of Homeland Security said on October 15 that Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents in Portland arrested a Mexican national illegally in the United States who has a prior sex-offense conviction. DHS did not release the man's name.
According to DHS, Immigration and Customs Enforcement had previously lodged an immigration detainer on the man, but he was released by local authorities under Oregon's sanctuary policies. HSI then carried out a targeted arrest in cooperation with local law enforcement that honors federal detainers.
Matthew Murphy, who leads HSI's Seattle office, issued a statement on the arrest. DHS did not disclose details of the man's conviction or his removal arrangements.
