ICE Arrests Five-Time Deported Mexican National With Drug and DUI Convictions in Lake Tahoe Area Traffic Stop

KINGS BEACH, Calif. — The Department of Homeland Security said on October 15 that agents from ICE Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Sacramento and Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Reno arrested Mario Jesus Valdez-Flores, a Mexican national, during a traffic stop in Kings Beach, on the north shore of Lake Tahoe, on October 7. DHS said Valdez-Flores had previously been deported five times: three times in 2008, once in 2009 and once in 2016.
According to DHS, Valdez-Flores has convictions for driving under the influence and for transporting or selling narcotics or controlled substances, and an arrest record that includes first-degree robbery, conspiracy and assault with a deadly weapon. He first entered the United States legally in 2004 but failed to leave when his authorized stay expired; details of his entries before the later deportations are not known. He remains in ICE custody pending removal to Mexico.
Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin said in a statement that another criminal illegal alien has been taken off the streets by ICE and that he will be deported so he can never again commit crimes against the people of the United States. This report covers this case only; other cases listed in the same DHS announcement are unrelated.
