San Antonio — Daniel Mendoza Jr., 44, of San Antonio has been sentenced in federal court to 200 months in prison for possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, U.S. Attorney Justin R. Simmons for the Western District of Texas announced.

According to court documents, the Guadalupe County Sheriff's Office began investigating Mendoza in 2025. He advertised illicit drugs on social media and repeatedly sold pills laced with fentanyl and fluorofentanyl in Schertz. Mendoza was arrested on January 14, 2026. A search of his home found additional fentanyl, cocaine and alprazolam stored in his kitchen, and a .40-caliber pistol with a magazine loaded with 10 rounds in his bedside table. The Justice Department describes Mendoza as a convicted felon with an extensive criminal history.

Mendoza was indicted on January 7, 2026, and a superseding indictment on March 4 added further charges. He pleaded guilty on May 28 to one count of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl. The Drug Enforcement Administration and the Guadalupe County Sheriff's Office investigated the case, which was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Amy Marie Walker.
