Mexican National Sanchez-Solis Sentenced to Five Years for Northern Border Smuggling Conspiracy

The Justice Department said on October 15 that Edgar Sanchez-Solis, 27, a Mexican national, was sentenced that day to five years in prison for his role in an international human smuggling conspiracy that brought aliens from Mexico and Central and South America across the northern border with Canada into the United States.
According to court documents, Sanchez-Solis was a leader of the smuggling organization while living illegally in Kansas City, Missouri; the organization smuggled hundreds of aliens into the country and used drivers to move them further into the interior. During one run in May 2023, a van carrying smuggled aliens led Border Patrol on a high-speed chase that agents broke off for public safety, before a local sheriff's department stopped the vehicle with a tire-deflation device. He previously pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit alien smuggling and five counts of alien smuggling for financial gain.
Assistant Attorney General A. Tysen Duva of the Criminal Division said Sanchez-Solis profited from a scheme that undermined northern border security and put law enforcement officers and the smuggled aliens in harm's way. HSI Buffalo and the Border Patrol investigated the case.
