Brewers Beat Dodgers 6-4 to Complete NLCS Sweep, Reach First World Series Since 1982
LOS ANGELES — The Milwaukee Brewers beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-4 on Thursday night, October 15, at Dodger Stadium to complete a 4-0 sweep of the National League Championship Series, winning the first National League pennant in franchise history and reaching the World Series for the first time since 1982. The World Series opens on October 23 against the winner of the American League Championship Series.
Los Angeles struck first in the second inning, when Andy Pages singled home Kyle Tucker and Shohei Ohtani followed with a three-run home run for a 4-0 lead. It was Ohtani's first home run since August 18 and his first of this postseason. Dodgers starter Tyler Glasnow retired the first ten Brewers he faced.
Milwaukee rallied from the fourth inning on. Jake Bauers drove in two runs with a double in the fourth, David Hamilton added an RBI single in the fifth, and a bases-loaded walk to Bauers tied the game 4-4. Glasnow lasted 4 1/3 innings and allowed four runs; Bauers finished with three RBIs.
Garrett Mitchell homered in the sixth to put Milwaukee ahead 5-4, his second straight night with a home run. The Dodgers put the tying run on third base in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings without scoring. Hamilton homered again in the ninth for a 6-4 margin, and reliever Aaron Ashby closed the game with three scoreless innings. Milwaukee avenged last year's NLCS sweep by Los Angeles, and the Dodgers' bid for a third straight World Series title ended.
Ohtani's three-run homer traveled 428 feet. Milwaukee won a major-league-best 103 games in the regular season. 'We weren't coming in to play patty-cake,' manager Pat Murphy said. 'We were hungry, and as long as it's an even playing field, we're going to come in and give it our best shot to win.' The World Series opens October 23, with the Brewers facing the winner of the American League Championship Series between the Cleveland Guardians and the Tampa Bay Rays.
