Indiana Governor Says November Execution Will Move Forward Despite Botched Lethal Injection in Tennessee

Thursday, October 15, 2026 · States · GSM News

Indiana Governor Mike Braun said on October 14 that he expects the state to follow through on plans to execute a death row prisoner next month despite concerns over the lethal injection drug, Indiana Public Media reported.

Indiana uses the same drug Tennessee administered last month in a botched execution attempt: on September 30, two doses of pentobarbital failed to kill death row inmate Christa Pike, who regained consciousness days later in a Nashville hospital. Braun said the Tennessee incident does give him pause, but that Indiana's planned execution of Weisheit will move forward as long as state officials can obtain a supply of pentobarbital.

Weisheit was sentenced to death for the murders of two children in 2010 in Evansville, and his execution is set for November 5 at the Indiana State Prison. His attorneys are asking the state supreme court to delay the execution to allow time for new brain scans, which they say could reveal evidence of brain injury. The state parole board has scheduled clemency hearings in the case. Braun said he will consider new information provided by Weisheit but does not want to delay the execution.
