Maryland Governor Announces Fatherhood Program: Eight-Week Virtual Course with PEP to Serve Up to 300 Fathers

Thursday, October 15, 2026 · States · GSM News

Maryland Governor Wes Moore announced a new program on October 14 during a fireside chat at the Baltimore Banner Impact Summit, designed to address key challenges faced by young men and boys by providing parenting supports for fathers, according to the governor's office. Beginning next week, Maryland will partner with the Parent Encouragement Program (PEP) to provide an eight-week virtual program that can serve up to 300 fathers.

The program brings fathers together in small groups once a week, led by trained facilitators who are graduates of the program themselves, focusing on practical parenting strategies, strengthening family connections, supporting children's mental health and helping children succeed in school. This cohort will prioritize fathers from the state's ENOUGH Initiative communities.

Moore said Maryland sees young men and boys as assets to be cultivated rather than problems to be solved, and that the initiative helps fathers foster meaningful connections with their families as part of the administration's goal of closing opportunity gaps for young men and boys.
