Thursday, October 15, 2026 · States · GSM News

Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport is preparing for a busy Minnesota Educators Academy (MEA) school break, with passenger volumes expected to rise 16 percent above average fall levels, Minnesota News Network reported on October 14.

Airport officials said about 50,000 people are expected to pass through security on Wednesday, October 14, and Thursday, October 15, the busiest travel days of the break, and that Sunday, October 18, could see more than 44,000 passengers through security. Early mornings and late afternoons will be the busiest periods, and the airport recommends arriving two hours before domestic flights and three hours before international departures.

The MEA break is a fixed short holiday for Minnesota public schools each fall, held while the statewide teachers' conference convenes. Schools close statewide and many families travel during the break, making it one of the airport's busiest periods of the fall.
