American Correctional Association Announces First National Summit on Suicide Prevention in Corrections, to Be Held in Mississippi

The American Correctional Association (ACA) announced in Jackson, Mississippi, on October 14 that it will hold its first national summit event focused on suicide prevention in corrections, titled Insights for Impact. The association said the summit will bring together correctional leadership, health care professionals and facility staff to discuss strengthening practices and protecting the health and safety of individuals in custody.
According to the ACA, the summit will feature work carried out in Mississippi's prison system aimed at reducing suicide and stress in facilities and making prisons safer. A pre-summit presentation is planned during the ACA Winter Conference in Phoenix, Arizona, on January 7–10, 2027, with the summit's date, location, speakers and registration details to be announced later.
The ACA is a national professional organization for corrections that promotes accreditation, education, research and advocacy. Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves brought the state's current corrections leadership to reform the prison system, part of the backdrop for holding the summit in Mississippi.
