New Mexico Election Officials Issue Joint Voter Advisory Ahead of General Election

Thursday, October 15, 2026 · States · GSM News

New Mexico Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver and Attorney General Raul Torrez released a joint voter advisory on Tuesday afternoon with practical information about voter eligibility and the dates and deadlines for registration and casting a ballot, KSFR reported on October 14.

The advisory also addresses voter intimidation and law enforcement's role at polling places. It notes that law enforcement is generally prohibited from entering a polling place unless an election official specifically asks for help maintaining order. The advisory follows mixed messages from federal officials about the possible presence of FBI or immigration officers at polling sites.

Torrez said in a statement that every registered voter has the right to vote without intimidation, interference or coercion. New Mexico's 2026 general election is on November 3; early voting began on October 6 and runs through October 31.
