Nevada Opens Survey for Its First Statewide Trails Plan Through November 30

Thursday, October 15, 2026 · States · GSM News

The Nevada Division of State Parks and the Division of Outdoor Recreation opened an online survey on October 14 asking residents and visitors how they use trails and where improvements are needed, with responses accepted through November 30. The survey will guide Nevada's first-ever statewide trails plan, intended to shape how trails are built, accessed and managed across the state.

The plan will cover trails for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding and off-highway vehicle use, and the survey invites suggestions for upgrades, new connections and recreation opportunities. It is available in English and Spanish through the Division of State Parks website.

Janice Keillor, deputy administrator of the Division of State Parks, said trails connect communities, create opportunities for people to explore Nevada's public lands, and provide access to the outdoors for people of all abilities and interests. A state report estimated that outdoor recreation generated $24 billion in combined market and nonmarket benefits in Nevada and the Tahoe Basin, including the basin's California side, in 2023, and supported more than 75,000 jobs. The agencies say public feedback will help identify community connections, improvements to existing trails and ways to protect natural resources.
