New York Announces More Than $97 Million for 35 Walking and Biking Projects Statewide

Thursday, October 15, 2026 · States · GSM News

New York Governor Kathy Hochul has announced more than $97 million in funding for 35 projects across the state to improve pedestrian, bicycle and accessibility infrastructure, including $4.8 million for the Village of Larchmont in Westchester County to upgrade the Chatsworth Avenue, Larchmont Avenue and Vanderburgh Avenue corridors.

The awards are funded through the Federal Highway Administration's Transportation Alternatives Program and administered by the New York State Department of Transportation, supporting non-motorized travel such as walking and biking and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Hochul said the investments will help New Yorkers leave their cars at home and make it easier to walk or bike to their destinations.

Larchmont Mayor Brigid Brennan said the investment will make crossing safer for all residents, and State Senator Shelley Mayer welcomed the nearly $5 million award for the village's pedestrian and bicycle safety and accessibility improvements.
