Ohio Women's Monument Unveiled at Statehouse Honoring Women's Contributions

Thursday, October 15, 2026 · States · GSM News

The Ohio Women's Monument was unveiled on October 14 on the South Plaza of the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus, honoring women's contributions to Ohio from the fight for voting rights to the achievements of later generations, The Columbus Dispatch reported.

Sculptor Brenda Councill spent seven months sculpting the monument, which consists of bronze figures and four granite columns; one column is left without a figure to represent future accomplishments. More than 100 people attended a morning program at the Ohio Theatre before crossing to the Statehouse, where Governor Mike DeWine joined community members for a ribbon-cutting. The two-hour celebration included speeches, a poem and a time-lapse video of the monument's creation.

Charles Moses, chair of the Capitol Square Foundation, said the tribute connects generations of his own family: his mother was born seven years before the ratification of the 19th Amendment, and his granddaughter was born last year. "It is a monument for all women," Moses said.
