Wyoming Business Council CEO Josh Dorrell Steps Down; Board Accepts Resignation October 14

Thursday, October 15, 2026 · States · GSM News

Josh Dorrell has announced he will step down as chief executive officer of the Wyoming Business Council, the agency said. The council's Board of Directors accepted his resignation at a special meeting on October 14 and will oversee the leadership transition, with the agency's work continuing uninterrupted.

Dorrell took the helm in 2020, bringing private-sector leadership to the council. He guided the agency through the COVID-19 pandemic, including delivering CARES Act relief to Wyoming businesses, turned the Building Resilient Communities program into a tool that delivers a positive return on investment for the state, led efforts to expand broadband access across Wyoming, and championed programs such as Wyoming Venture Capital and Assessment to Action. He also pushed Wyoming to confront the challenge of young people leaving the state for opportunities elsewhere, shifting the goal from funding projects to building an economy worth staying for.

Derek Smith, co-chair of the board, said Dorrell demonstrated a genuine passion for Wyoming and a steadfast commitment to the businesses and communities that make the state special over nearly seven years, and that his leadership has made a meaningful and lasting impact.
