Taiwan Stocks Fall 3 Percent Ahead of TSMC Earnings as Asian Tech Sell-Off Deepens

Thursday, October 15, 2026 · World News · GSM News

TAIPEI — Taiwan's stock market fell on October 15 as the Asian technology sell-off deepened, with the benchmark Taiex index down 3 percent, according to multiple financial media reports. TSMC, the island's leading chipmaker, dropped 2.2 percent ahead of its earnings report. The same day, South Korea's Kospi fell 7.7 percent, Japan's Nikkei 225 fell 4.8 percent, Hong Kong's Hang Seng dropped 1 percent and the Shanghai Composite slipped 1.4 percent.

The declines followed losses on Wall Street the previous day, where the S&P 500 dropped 1.1 percent and the Nasdaq composite slipped 1.9 percent, with Nvidia down 3.2 percent, Broadcom down 3.1 percent and AMD down 5.7 percent. The backdrop was U.S. data released October 14 showing consumer prices rose 3.7 percent year on year in September, up from 3.4 percent in August and above expectations.

TSMC is the world's largest contract chipmaker, and its results are watched as a gauge of SI chip demand. A Dow Jones headlines roundup compiled by Morningstar on October 14 said TSMC earnings are forecast to surge, while attention also falls on its talks with Elon Musk over the Terafab project and Texas discussions. TSMC's actual figures will be as released by the company.
