Ahold Supermarket Websites Still Offline Five Days After Cyber Incident

Websites and online delivery services at grocery chains belonging to Dutch supermarket operator Ahold remained offline for a fifth day on Friday, following what the company described as a cybersecurity incident that prompted it to shut down some of its own IT systems.
An Ahold spokesperson said the parent company could not comment on the situation at its individual chains. The group's US brands — Stop & Shop, Giant Food, Hannaford and Food Lion — are collectively among the largest food retailers in the United States. Physical stores remain open.
Ahold's Albert Heijn chain, the Netherlands' largest supermarket, has been gradually recovering from the shutdown that began on October 11, which disrupted its distribution centres and left produce shelves empty. Albert Heijn does not expect online delivery to resume before Sunday.
The Netherlands' justice minister, David van Weel, on Friday called on the company to file a criminal complaint over the incident. Ahold has said no customer, associate or partner data was taken. In its most recent statement, on October 14, the company said it was working with internal teams and external cybersecurity experts and engaging with the relevant authorities, and that it could not share details while its investigation continues.
