Sweden Pledges SEK 522 Million in Civilian Aid to Ukraine Ahead of Winter

Friday, October 16, 2026 · World News · GSM News

Sweden's government announced in Stockholm on October 16 an additional civilian support package for Ukraine worth SEK 522 million (about $50 million), aimed at the most urgent needs before and during the coming winter, according to TT News Agency. The funding will support electricity and heating in Ukrainian homes, help maintain energy and water supplies, and keep essential services such as hospitals and schools running through the winter months.

Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Benjamin Dousa said in a government press release that Russia is striking Ukraine's electricity and heating infrastructure in an effort to make the approaching winter unbearable for the Ukrainian people, and that the new package is directed at the needs created by those attacks. The aid will be delivered through Sweden's existing cooperation channels with Ukraine.

The government said the new package brings Sweden's total support for Ukraine since 2022 to around SEK 158 billion (about $15 billion), of which approximately SEK 29.6 billion (about $2.8 billion) is civilian support. The winter package is the latest civilian contribution announced by Stockholm ahead of this year's heating season.
