Energy Department Invests Nearly $11.1 Million in Energy Workforce Training: Eight PACT Projects Selected

Washington — The U.S. Department of Energy announced on October 14 that it will invest nearly $11.1 million in federal funding in eight projects selected for negotiation to strengthen America's energy workforce. The selections were made by the department's Hydrocarbons and Geothermal Energy Office (HGEO) and Office of Indian Energy Policy and Programs (IE) through the Partnerships for Academic-Industry Career Training (PACT) Initiative.
The department said the projects will create or expand hands-on training and industry-recognized credentialing programs designed around regional workforce needs, preparing workers for jobs that support the oil, natural gas, coal and geothermal industries. Nearly $8.8 million will support six HGEO projects and about $2.3 million will support two IE projects; the Indian Energy selections include two tribal colleges and universities.
Acting Assistant Secretary for Hydrocarbons and Geothermal Energy Curt Coccodrilli said the nation's energy agenda relies on workers with the practical skills to build, operate, maintain and modernize energy systems, and that the projects will bring industry and educators together so training reflects real-world needs. IE Director Eric Mahroum said the tribal energy workforce is vital to developing America's energy resources and that tribal colleges and universities are essential partners.
