San Diego is a city in San Diego County, California. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced on Oct. 16 that its officers at the Otay Mesa port of entry in San Diego, California, seized nearly 1,600 pounds of methamphetamine this week, with an estimated value of about $2.5 million. The narcotics were concealed within a commercial shipment of tomatillos.

The Otay Mesa port of entry, on San Diego's southern edge along the U.S.-Mexico border, is one of Southern California's busiest commercial cargo crossings, where CBP officers inspect trucks carrying produce and manufactured goods into the United States. CBP officials held a press conference on the seizure.

CBP said it will continue targeting attempts to smuggle narcotics through legitimate cargo channels at ports of entry nationwide. The agency did not release further details in its summary. (GSM, based on a U.S. Customs and Border Protection release)
