WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of the Treasury released Treasury International Capital (TIC) data for August 2026 on October 16, reporting a net TIC inflow of $199.8 billion for the month across long-term securities, short-term U.S. securities and banking flows. Net foreign private inflows were $178.5 billion and net foreign official inflows were $21.3 billion. The next release, covering September, is scheduled for November 18, 2026.

Foreign residents increased their holdings of long-term U.S. securities in August, with net purchases of $300.7 billion — $257.8 billion by private foreign investors and $42.9 billion by foreign official institutions. U.S. residents, meanwhile, increased their holdings of long-term foreign securities by $21.6 billion. After adjustments including estimated acquisitions through stock swaps, overall net foreign purchases of long-term securities were estimated at $279.2 billion in August.

On the short-term side, foreign residents decreased their holdings of U.S. Treasury bills by $47.8 billion, and their holdings of all dollar-denominated short-term U.S. securities and other custody liabilities fell by $37.8 billion. Banks' own net dollar-denominated liabilities to foreign residents decreased by $41.6 billion.

The Treasury said complete TIC data are available on its website. The monthly figures, drawn largely from custodian reporting, are a closely watched gauge of foreign official and private demand for U.S. assets.
