Tenebris Somnia Launches Today: Retro Pixel Survival Horror With Live-Action Cinematics Arrives on PC and Consoles

Friday, October 16, 2026 · Games · GSM News

Tenebris Somnia, the survival horror game developed by Andrés Borghi and Saibot Studios and published by New Blood Interactive, launched on October 16 for PC via Steam and GOG, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. The game's Steam page lists October 16 as its release date, and a free demo has been available on Steam and other platforms ahead of launch.

Tenebris Somnia is a retro 2D adventure in the vein of survival horror classics such as Silent Hill and Resident Evil, adapted to an 8-bit and 16-bit pixel-art aesthetic. Players explore rooms, solve puzzles and fight creatures born from nightmares with limited resources as a disturbing story unfolds.

The game's signature device is its cinematics: at key points in the story, the pixel-art presentation gives way to live-action sequences filmed with real actors, physical sets and practical effects. Borghi, who directed and wrote the game, led the filmed production with an award-winning film crew from Argentina. Actress Clara Kovacic plays the lead character, Julia, in the live-action sequences.

According to the developers, the filmed sets also served as the reference for the pixel-art rooms, with doors, colors and layouts kept recognizable across the two formats. Steam lists interface and subtitle support in English, Spanish, Japanese and Portuguese, among other languages, and the PC version requires about 13 GB of storage. Reviews from outlets including Shacknews and Bloody Disgusting were published on launch day.
