Powerball Jackpot Climbs to $600 Million After No Winner
No ticket matched all six numbers in the Powerball drawing on the night of October 14, pushing the jackpot for the next drawing to an estimated $600 million, with a cash option of $246 million. The next drawing is set for Saturday night, October 17, at the draw studio in Tallahassee, Florida. The winning numbers were 3, 34, 37, 42 and 46, with a Powerball of 20 and a Power Play multiplier of 3x; the jackpot for the October 14 drawing had been $566 million.
Although the jackpot went unclaimed, one ticket sold in Minnesota matched all five white balls and had the Power Play option, winning $2 million. Fifteen other tickets matched four white balls plus the Powerball: twelve won $50,000 each and three won $150,000 each with Power Play. The jackpot was last won on August 12, when a ticket in Illinois claimed an estimated $1.04 billion; it has now rolled for more than two months.
Powerball is sold in 45 states plus Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, with drawings every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday night. Tickets cost $2 per play, with the Power Play option available for an additional $1. The odds of winning the jackpot are about 1 in 292.2 million. Winners may choose between an annuity paid in 30 graduated payments over 29 years or a one-time cash payment; both options are before taxes.
