Nominations for Montana Governor's Veteran Commendation Close October 28; Recipients to Be Announced on Veterans Day
Montana Governor Greg Gianforte on October 15 reminded residents that nominations for the 2026 Montana Governor's Veteran Commendation will close at 11:59 p.m. Mountain Time on Wednesday, October 28, and can be submitted at recognizeveterans.mt.gov.
The commendation recognizes Montana veterans who served honorably in uniform and continue to make meaningful contributions to their fellow veterans and communities. Recipients of the 2026 award will be announced on Veterans Day, November 11, and honored at ceremonies across the state in 2027. Each recipient is presented with a Montana state flag flown over the State Capitol and a letter from the governor recognizing their military service and continued commitment to their community.
According to the Governor's Office, Gianforte has recognized 230 Montana veterans since the commendation began in 2021, including 61 recipients of the 2025 award. In September, the governor presented the commendation to eleven of them at ceremonies in Carbon, Park, Madison and Gallatin counties. At the Belgrade ceremony, he said every Montana community has veterans whose service deserves to be recognized, and encouraged Montanans to help find the next group of veterans who continue to serve.
Gianforte has also said that recognizing outstanding veterans has been one of the proudest duties of his time as governor.
