[Video] Olivia Rodrigo Teams With Chappell Roan for 'Expectations' Remix — Roan's First-Ever Feature — With Retro Game-Show Video
Olivia Rodrigo released a remix of her song "expectations" featuring Chappell Roan through Interscope Records on Oct. 15 — Roan's first-ever feature on another artist's track. The original song appears on Rodrigo's third studio album, "you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love," which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 485,000 first-week units.
The remix, produced by the pair's mutual longtime collaborator Dan Nigro, replaces the original second verse with a newly written verse by Roan. Its music video, directed by Bardia Zeinali, drops the two singers into a fictional retro game show, "The Big Expectations Show," hosted by Talking Heads frontman David Byrne, with a cameo by Nigro.
Roan first opened for Rodrigo on the singer's first tour, and the two have remained close friends; in August, Roan performed at Daisy Chain Fields, the festival Rodrigo founded in Irvine, Orange County. Rodrigo wrote on release day that she loves the song and the video, calling Roan the most incredible person and the most inspiring artist, and herself lucky to learn from her and call her a friend. Roan told Apple Music the collaboration — her first feature — felt perfect.
The remix is streaming now, with limited-edition 7-inch vinyl, CD and cassette editions released Oct. 16. (GSM, based on reporting by Billboard and Variety)
