Oklahoma Lawmakers Present $4.7 Million to Piedmont for Road Improvements Through State PREP Program

Oklahoma State Sen. Kristen Thompson and State Rep. Denise Crosswhite Hader presented a $4.7 million check to the City of Piedmont on October 13 to move forward key transportation improvements along Edmond Road and Piedmont Road.

The funding was awarded through the state's PREP program and, working in complement with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation's investment on State Highway 4, will address significant public safety concerns on two of Piedmont's most heavily traveled roads. Piedmont is one of Oklahoma's fastest growing communities, having grown from 1,500 residents to almost 10,000, with the population expected to double again in the next 10 years. City officials are assessing several roadway options, including a full four-lane buildout, three-lane and super two-lane alternatives, and will move forward with the design offering the greatest long-term safety and efficiency once final numbers are available; Mayor Kurt Mayabb said construction is expected to begin by the end of the 2027 school year.

Thompson said strong communities need infrastructure that can keep up with their growth, and that Piedmont has identified important safety needs with city leaders ready to move forward. Mayabb expressed appreciation for the funding and for the lawmakers' efforts to help smaller communities address costly infrastructure needs, while City Manager Josh Williams said the funding will elevate safety for residents and address congestion challenges faced by first responders and law enforcement operating from a facility situated directly off the road.
