The San Diego Police Department announced on October 15 that its Narcotics Unit, working with U.S. Postal Service inspectors throughout September, intercepted 458 packages of narcotics that were being prepared for shipment from postal facilities across San Diego County to destinations around the United States. Four people were arrested on felony drug trafficking charges. Police said the investigation began in September when a package was accidentally delivered to the wrong residence and the recipient notified authorities, leading detectives to the wider mail-order operation.

Officers seized more than 91 pounds of narcotics packed into hundreds of envelopes and shipping boxes, according to the department. The haul included 33,021 grams of methamphetamine, among it more than 100,000 counterfeit Adderall pills, along with 5,116 grams of MDMA, 2,450 grams of ketamine, 538 grams of cocaine and approximately 1,000 Xanax pills. Police put the estimated street value at about $1.14 million.

The department said the parcels were headed for addresses across the country. The four arrested individuals face felony drug trafficking charges in a case investigated jointly by SDPD narcotics detectives and U.S. postal inspectors, with the results announced on October 15.
