Maryland Awards Over $4.7 Million in EARN Grants to Train More Than 1,700 Workers

Annapolis — Maryland Governor Wes Moore and the Maryland Department of Labor on October 16 announced more than $4.7 million in new EARN Maryland grant awards. The funding is expected to give more than 1,700 Marylanders access to training and credentials and connect nearly 600 workers directly to jobs, with nearly 1,000 incumbent workers receiving upskilling.
Targeted investments in this round include more than $1 million for cybersecurity and emerging technologies, about $800,000 for skilled-trades pre-apprenticeships and registered apprenticeships, and $750,000 for healthcare training. Awardees include community colleges, local workforce boards and nonprofits, among them the Asian American Center of Frederick, in the healthcare sector.
The governor's office said the Moore-Miller administration has invested more than $35 million through EARN, providing upskilling to over 6,200 Marylanders and training and job placement to another 4,500. The Labor Department estimates the program generates about $19 in economic activity for every $1 invested.
Moore said: 'Here in Maryland, we are dedicated to building pathways to work, wages, and wealth, and investing in our workforce, so Marylanders can take advantage of a changing economy fueled by industries of the future.' Labor Secretary Portia Wu said that under the Moore-Miller Administration, EARN has helped over 15,000 Marylanders gain skills and family-supporting jobs.
