In Social Posts: Joe Tsai Condemns Racist Attack on Journalist Pablo Torre; CZ Weighs In Three Times in a Week on Wallet Safety and Solana's Shanghai Event

In mid-October, Alibaba Group chairman and Brooklyn Nets owner Joe Tsai and Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) each took to the social platform X on topics in their respective worlds.

Tsai's post came against the backdrop of investigative journalist Pablo Torre's latest reporting. Torre's investigation into alleged salary-cap circumvention by the Los Angeles Clippers won his podcast a 2026 Pulitzer Prize; more recently he has been examining LeBron James's arrangement with sports collectibles company Fanatics, under whose multiyear deal James uses a Fanatics helicopter to commute between New York and Philadelphia. On October 15, an X account called The Locker Room attacked Torre in racist terms; Torre replied with three words: "I'm Filipino." Tsai then posted in his defense: "@PabloTorre is a proud Asian-American and an excellent journalist. He has done extraordinary work reporting on the NBA." Addressing the attacking account, he added: "I don't know who you are but this blatant racism is despicable and you should be called out for who you are."

CZ's first post came on October 10, after reports that hardware wallets sold by a third-party Ledger reseller in Southeast Asia had allegedly been tampered with, causing users losses of about $86 million to $87 million. "FWIW, I am not against hardware wallets, or self-custody," Zhao wrote. "Different wallets/product for different use cases. All have different security implications and best practices." He disclosed that YZi Labs has invested in hardware wallet makers OneKey and SafePal and in mobile wallet Trust Wallet, and urged users to "Stay SAFU out there." He later published a condensed 2026 crypto security guide covering theft prevention, loss prevention and inheritance planning.

On October 15, Zhao praised Solana for opening an office in Shanghai and advertising in the city: "It's amazing to see that Solana was able to advertise and even get an office in China. @BNBChain was not able to do this, so far. Hopefully, what's good for one industry player is also good for the rest." The next day, October 16, the Shanghai stop of the Solana Foundation's Accelerate China 2026 tour was interrupted at a Shanghai hotel: attendees reported eight or nine law enforcement officers on site and waits of more than an hour without entry, while organizers said the morning program was postponed over venue logistics and Solana Foundation president Lily Liu cited registrations quadrupling overnight and overcrowding. Commenting on the disruption, Zhao wrote: "Sad to see. Looks like they really didn't know the local policies? But it's not the first time either, same thing happened less than a year ago" — a reference to a 2025 Solana event in Shenzhen that was likewise disrupted after a police inquiry.
