Kelsey Grammer to Star in NBC Drama 'Pops' as a Late-Life EMT

Saturday, October 17, 2026 · Film · GSM News

Kelsey Grammer is set to star in and executive-produce 'Pops,' a new drama series in development at NBC, Deadline and other outlets reported Oct. 14-15. The project marks Grammer's return to NBC 22 years after 'Frasier' ended its 11-season run in 2004; his Dr. Frasier Crane also appeared on the network in 'Cheers' and 'Wings.' A 'Frasier' revival ran for two seasons on Paramount+ in 2023-2024.

Unlike the sitcom role that made him famous, 'Pops' is a drama. Grammer will play the title character, a man who has aged out of a successful career and, in desperate need of a fresh start, jumps into the chaotic world of emergency medicine alongside first responders half his age. The series is written by 'Chicago Med' veteran Danny Weiss, with Universal Television, Grammer's Grammnet NH Productions and 3 Arts Entertainment producing.

The show is based on the true story of Maryland resident Ed Levien, who followed a successful advertising career by becoming a volunteer EMT in his 60s. Nicknamed 'Pops' by his younger colleagues, Levien worked as an EMT for about 12 years before retiring last fall at age 76. Levien is an executive producer on the series, which is in development and has not yet been ordered to series. (GSM, based on reporting by Deadline and TVLine)
