Saturday, October 17, 2026 · Life · GSM News

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced on Oct. 15 that 3M Company is recalling about 53,634 Scotch thermal laminators, model TL1302Z, because the machines can overheat and pose a fire hazard that the agency describes as a risk of serious injury or death.

According to the recall notice, 3M has received 63 reports of the laminators smoking, melting or overheating, including five reports of the laminators catching fire and one report of minor property damage. No injuries have been reported. The recalled units are light gray and white with gray accents and the word 'Scotch' printed on the front, with a 13-inch-wide laminating slot and a carrying handle on the right side; the model number TL1302Z appears on a sticker on the bottom. They were sold on Amazon from June 2024 through September 2026 for between $44 and $56.

Consumers should stop using the laminator, unplug it and contact 3M for a full refund by completing an online recall registration form on the Scotch website, including a photo of the machine with its unplugged power cord cut. Refunds are mailed by check, and the product should be discarded in accordance with local and state laws for electronics recycling. The recall number is 27-024.
