Qualcomm Renews Global Patent Licenses With Transsion, Combining 4G and 5G Into One Deal Through 2031

SAN DIEGO — Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM) announced on October 16 that it has entered into a long-term renewal of its global patent licenses with Transsion Holdings, combining the existing 4G and 5G agreements into a single long-term agreement covering 4G and 5G mobile devices through December 31, 2031. Transsion will continue to pay royalties based on Qualcomm's standard licensing terms.
Transsion, whose smartphone brands include Tecno, Infinix and Itel, sells devices across Africa, South Asia, Southeast Asia and Latin America. The early renewal streamlines the intellectual property relationship between the two companies.
John Han, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Qualcomm Technology Licensing, said in the announcement that the company is pleased to have reached the early renewal of Transsion's 4G and 5G licenses and to combine the existing agreements into a single long-term agreement. The two companies settled a patent dispute in January 2025, at which point Transsion held licenses to Qualcomm's patents under two separate contracts.
