Dallas's $443 Million Public Safety Bond Goes to November Ballot; Only One of Five Projects Fully Designed

Dallas is a city in Dallas County, Texas. The Dallas Patriot reported on October 17 that the city's own two-page fact sheet on Proposition A, the $443 million public safety bond on the November 3 ballot, lists five projects, of which only one has a completed design.
The five projects are an $82 million Law Enforcement Training Center at UNT Dallas, a $149 million Public Safety Training Complex at Dallas Executive Airport, $40 million to move the Emergency Operations Center and 911 call center, $150 million for a consolidated police property room and crime lab, and $22 million to replace Fire Station No. 4. With interest over as many as 20 years, the city estimates total repayment at about $629.6 million.
The training center broke ground on September 3, with $145 million in city, state and private money already lined up. The other four projects, worth about $361 million, are at earlier stages: the airport training complex is in the programming stage, site selection for the 911 and emergency operations move is in progress, staff are continuing due diligence on a site for the property room and crime lab, and a new site for Fire Station No. 4, in service since 1953, still needs to be identified. Early voting opens Monday.
