San Diego County to Hold Third Annual Disabled Veterans Resource Fair on Oct. 20 in Scripps Ranch
San Diego is a city in San Diego County, California. The County of San Diego announced on October 16 that its third annual Disabled Veterans Resource Fair will be held on Tuesday, October 20, from 9 a.m. to noon at the National University campus in Scripps Ranch, 9980 Carroll Canyon Rd, San Diego, CA 92131. The free event, held ahead of Veterans Day on November 11, requires no registration, according to the county. A kickoff ceremony begins at 9 a.m., and California State Treasurer Fiona Ma will open the event.
The fair is hosted by the San Diego County Assessor/Recorder/County Clerk's Office, led by Jordan Z. Marks, with the office's Taxpayer Advocate Office under Martin Arias heading the effort. The county said the event brings government agencies, nonprofit organizations and community groups together in one location to help veterans and their families find benefits, services and support in a single morning.
Participants listed by the county include the Office of Veterans and Military Affairs; the Health and Human Services Agency; the Treasurer-Tax Collector's Office; the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV); the Registrar of Voters; the county departments of child support services and human resources; the Social Security Administration (SSA); the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA); the San Diego County Sheriff's Office; and the county's VALOR veterans employee group. Community partners include the University of San Diego Tele-Mental Health Training Clinic, Casa Pacifica Adult Day Health Care Center, Workshops for Warriors, Children's Choice Dental Care and GOVX.
Services available on site cover healthcare and mental health, child support, records, and employment help, and the county's news center noted that even free haircuts will be offered. The Assessor's Office will also run a property tax savings workshop for disabled veterans. Last year's second annual fair was held at the County Operations Center in Kearny Mesa; this year's event moves to the National University campus in Scripps Ranch.
