Arizona's Humboldt Unified Seeks $79.6M Bond for Facilities and Buses Without Raising Tax Rate

The Humboldt Unified School District in Prescott Valley, Arizona, is asking voters to support Proposition 407, a $79.6 million bond measure. Superintendent Brett Dahl said on October 16 that the bond would fund capital needs only across the district's 10 buildings — HVAC systems, roofs, boilers and structural repairs — plus replacement of aging school buses, and cannot be used for administrative costs or salaries.
Dahl said some buses have logged more than 500,000 miles, and Humboldt High School and Pronghorn Ridge Middle School need structural work. The measure requires no property tax increase: the district's previous bond, passed in 2006, is expiring just as the new one would take effect, replacing it at the same rate. 'We can get $79.6 million to invest in our schools and it doesn't change the tax rate,' Dahl said.
If approved, funding would be distributed over three years beginning in January 2027 and repaid over a 20-year term. Dahl said the work would also generate local jobs for electricians, plumbers, HVAC mechanics and other tradespeople. (GSM, via Signals AZ)
