ICE Arrests Noncitizen in Minnesota Accused of Voting in the 2024 Election While Falsely Claiming U.S. Citizenship

St. Paul — The Department of Homeland Security announced on October 16 that Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents from the St. Paul office of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested Mukeshkumar Somabhai Chaudhari, a noncitizen accused of voting in the 2024 election while falsely claiming to be a U.S. citizen.

According to DHS, a federal grand jury in Minnesota indicted Chaudhari on two counts on September 10, 2026. The indictment alleges that on November 5, 2024, he signed a Minnesota voter signature certificate falsely claiming U.S. citizenship in order to vote. The two counts — providing false information in voting, and falsely claiming citizenship to register or vote — each carry a maximum sentence of five years in prison. An indictment is an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless convicted.

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said in the statement that noncitizens who vote illegally will be arrested and held accountable. Travis Pickard, special agent in charge of HSI St. Paul, said the right to vote belongs exclusively to U.S. citizens.
