TikTok has permanently banned the official TikTok account of the documentary "Musk," The Hollywood Reporter reported on October 17. According to the report, distributor Bleecker Street was informed on Friday afternoon (October 16) that a "permanent suspension" was coming, and the film's page disappeared from the platform shortly after.

In an official message to Bleecker Street, TikTok cited a "level of severity with political-policy violations" and said that "some violations trigger immediate suspension," according to the report. TikTok has not publicly elaborated on the ban.

Directed by documentary filmmaker Alex Gibney, the roughly 225-minute film examines Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk. It premiered at the Venice Film Festival in September and opened in U.S. theaters on October 16; earlier this week, it received five Critics Choice Documentary Award nominations.

It is not the film's first clash with major platforms. In September, TikTok, Meta, YouTube and Musk-owned X initially declined to run the film's trailer as a paid advertisement, citing political content; Bleecker Street appealed, and Meta and YouTube later reversed course, saying the restriction had been an error or clearing the ad to run after review. According to the Associated Press, Musk has publicly attacked Gibney, and his lawyer has put the filmmakers on formal legal notice.
