Ryanair to Close Berlin Base, Cutting 12 Routes Over German Aviation Fees

Saturday, October 17, 2026 · World News · GSM News

Ryanair, Europe's largest low-cost carrier, is closing its base at Berlin Brandenburg Airport, with the effects beginning on October 24, 2026. The shutdown removes 12 routes from the German capital's airport and cuts the airline's winter capacity there by about 50 percent. The seven aircraft currently based in Berlin will be moved to lower-cost airports instead.

The airline blames high German aviation charges for the decision. Ryanair has also announced that it will end its UK flights to Bremen from April 2027, removing around 500,000 seats, as part of broader reductions to its German network.

Passengers holding bookings on the affected routes should check the airline's notifications; where flights are cancelled, travelers are generally entitled to rebooking or a refund, with compensation depending on the circumstances and notice given.
