Bali Fuel Shortage Drags On as Queues Stretch and Hundreds Protest

Saturday, October 17, 2026 · World News · GSM News

A fuel supply disruption on Indonesia's resort island of Bali has dragged on for days, with long queues of cars and motorcycles forming outside petrol stations and some stations closed, Reuters reported. Denpasar, Kuta, Badung, Jembrana, Tabanan and Klungkung are among the affected areas, and in Jembrana alone 14 petrol stations have been affected.

On Thursday, hundreds of people protested outside the governor's office demanding a better response from the authorities. Some drivers said they had waited four to eight hours to get fuel. Videos of queues stretching for kilometres circulated widely on social media.

Indonesia's state energy company Pertamina said the disruption was caused by delays in fuel distribution after a tanker faced problems unloading its cargo. Bali is Indonesia's top international tourism destination, and the shortage has disrupted traffic across the island and raised wider concerns about energy supply stability.
